Chapter 20

I had an amazing time with Trent at the studio. It was a nice relief from the stress of the music industry. My day-to-day routine has changed so much. Something as simple as sleep is non-existent. Between the recording stu-dios, appearances, video shoots and television, I can honestly say that I have been living out of a suitcase for the last few weeks. It’s tiring waking up and not knowing where I am, wishing I could just have a sense of normalcy. I try and call my parents at least once a week to keep in touch with reality. In this business it’s easy to believe your own hype but talking to my parents helps keep me grounded.

I’m trying hard not to get jaded by this business because I know how easy it is to get sucked in. That’s another reason why I haven’t been dating. Besides the fact that I just don’t have the time, the men in the industry are so arrogant, you can’t decipher who the real person is. Meeting Trent was a nice change. He made me think that there are still a few good guys out there. He made me feel really comfortable, it felt like we had known each other for years. Having music in common allowed a natural chemistry and the song that we recorded came out so well. It reminds me a lot of that song, Dilemma that Nelly and Kelly did together a long time ago.

Because the song came out better than we expected, later on today I’m meeting with my team to go over some of my business plans for the next month. We want to try and work in a few collaborations with Trent since he’s both a rapper and a producer.

Everyone on my team has a role, there’s nobody in The Fam who’s just hanging around for the sake of hanging around and that’s a really good thing. A lot of times, an artist’s team can contribute to their success or downfall. It’s usually your own people that are leaking stories to the media. And a lot of times, the stories are not true. So because of that, everyone who works with me has a purpose. Each individual knows what is expected of him or her. Tony describes us as an All-Star team and everyone is expected to perform at their best and make moves that will advance all of our careers.

With that said, I’m very content with everyone on my team except Rhonda. I have no idea why she doesn’t like me and it’s not that I really care, but let’s be honest here, I’m the one paying her so if she doesn’t like me, then she doesn’t need to work for me. I spoke with Tony earlier in the week and he agreed if she isn’t the right fit for our team, we should let her go. This will be the first person that we will have to fire and it’s going to be especially
